Curtis Jere Flock of 21 Birds Seagulls in Flight Sculpture
Artisan House C. Jere
Mid Century Modern
Brutalist Metal Wall Art
Welded Iron or Steel
Antiqued Gold Tone
or
Brushed Bronze Effect
IT IS NOT SIGNED, which could mean one of two things. It could be an early production at the time ARTISAN HOUSE did not sign the pieces, or it could be a licensed reproduction.
The metal is magnetic, so I'm assuming it's either iron or steel. The metal has a gold tone brushed finish, tho depending on the lighting, the color can appear more bronze-ish. I'm assuming (again) that the finish is baked on. The finish is in very good condition with only a very few minor scratches here and there.
There are two sturdy welded-on, open-loop hooks on the back of the sculpture for hanging on the wall. As far as I can tell, all the welds on the sculpture are sturdy. Nothing is loose or jiggly.
The large birds have sharp, pointed beaks and look rather like bullets. The tails of the large birds were fanned out by crimping with a textured tool while the metal was hot.
The smaller birds have rounded blunt heads and round/circular untextured tails.
I bought this sculpture second-hand in the very early 2000s and have never hung it up, it's just been propped against a wall on a table top. It's a bear to dust. It's big and heavy, brutally sharp and awkward to carry. It needs to be handled very carefully because it can so easily cause damage to other inanimate objects and living things that it comes into contact with while it's being carried around. We are moving soon, and though I love it, I don't want to deal with this.
